Dark mornings, frosty air, and a bed that feels far too cosy to leave—winter isn’t exactly known for its motivational vibes. But for me, there’s one thing that makes prying myself out from under the duvet a little easier: BBC Sounds.
This app has become a daily essential for me. Whether it’s waking up to Radio 2, vibing with nostalgic playlists, or diving into an engrossing podcast, BBC Sounds adds a bit of joy and motivation to my day.
Why I Love BBC Sounds
BBC Sounds isn’t just a radio app—it’s your personal soundtrack to life. Here’s why it’s my go-to:
- Live Radio on Demand: From breakfast shows to late-night vibes, you can listen to your favourite stations anytime, anywhere. And if you miss something? Just rewind or catch up later.
- Playlists for Every Mood: Curated playlists make it easy to find the perfect tunes, whether you’re after nostalgia or a mood booster.
- Podcasts Galore: With thousands of podcasts spanning every topic, there’s something for everyone. True crime? Comedy? Relationships? They’ve got it all.
- Offline Listening: Download shows and playlists to keep you entertained even when you’re out of signal.
My Morning with BBC Sounds
Every morning starts with Radio 2—it’s my happy place. There’s something about the upbeat, positive vibe that sets the tone for the day. And Friday nights? Radio 2 again! It’s the ultimate way to start the weekend. I’m also a big fan of Jo Whiley’s shows—her music taste is epic.
Once I’ve woken up properly, I might switch to a playlist for breakfast or while tackling my inbox. Sounds of the 90s with Fearne Cotton is my absolute favourite. It’s packed with bangers that take me right back to my teenage years—nothing beats a bit of nostalgia to kickstart your day.

Podcasts I’m Loving Right Now
BBC Sounds is brilliant for original podcasts. I was absolutely obsessed with The Missing Cryptoqueen—the story is wild, and I’m still desperate to know what actually happened. More recently, I’ve started Finding Mr. Fox and I have high hopes for it—it feels fresh and intriguing so far.
If you have podcast recommendations, please share them with me! I’m always looking for something new to binge.

The Verdict: A 5/5 App
BBC Sounds is more than just a radio app. It’s my morning motivator, my kitchen companion, and my go-to for unwinding at the end of the day. With its mix of live radio, curated playlists, and binge-worthy podcasts, it genuinely makes my life easier and more enjoyable.
